| | 3D Printing | September 16, 2016 | Hey you.
How's life treating you? I just started about 4 different books simultaneously and reading them on and off for about 1 hour per day.
I wish there was an easier/faster way to digest books (audiobooks are also slow).
I am also going to be watching a documentary called 'War Room' sometime this week.
It's a "behind the scenes" documentary on the 1992 political campaign in the U.S -- and I find it quite relevant to all the madness happening right now with Clinton vs. Trump. See trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgo-qwfCFYU
Anyway, this weeks digest has a bunch of interesting items.
We will be covering:
1.) DIY 3D printed Camera 2.) 3D Printed Food 3.) Edible, 3D Printed living food 4.) Carbon3D expanding 5.) Fashion and 3D Printing 6.) Kickstarters 7.) Robo3D being acquired 8.) Synthetic, 3D Printed organisms 9.) 3D Printed door handle without moving parts 10.) Form Labs facing patent infringement
Phew.
That's a decent chunk of stuff huh?
Anyway, I wish you an incredible upcoming weekend.
Please have a beer on my behalf :) Dilanka
P.S: Not sure if you are a Hunter S. Thompson fan (I am a huge fan) -- but I recently came across a letter he wrote when he was 20 years old about finding one's purpose and living a meaningful life. It's pretty good: https://www.brainpickings.org/2013/11/04/hunter-s-thomspon-letters-of-note-advice/ | How mobile commerce really works Americans are now doing almost 33% of their online shopping on mobile devices. But what happens when you click “buy” isn’t as simple as it seems. A lot has to happen at lightning speed, with ironclad security, for mobile commerce to work. Check out this infographic, which lays out the entire process, by clicking here. | Want to support diversity in tech? Throughout September, Betabrand will donate $5 from every Dress Pant Yoga Pants purchase to the Techstars Foundation, a nonprofit working to improve diversity in technology entrepreneurship. | | Amos Dudley - amosdudley.com Would it be possible to 3D Print a fully functional camera? Amos Dudley did just that. It was no easy task, and after spending countless hours with his design, he has decided to release his work for free. What a guy! One of the best DIY projects I've seen in a while...it might even be in the Top 5. | | foodink.io - foodink.io This is an interesting idea. It's a restaurant where your meals are downloaded and 3D Printed for your enjoyment. Not sure if I shared it with you a while back, but just in case, it's definitely worth checking out. | | dezeen - vimeo.com This is arguably one of the coolest, most interesting application(s) of 3D Printing I've come across. It's called Edible Growth and blends food, gardening, and 3D Printing. It works a bit like this: First, a shell is 3D Printed with a type of edible soil, and then, a living, edible plant is grown inside the enclosure to be consumed later. | | carbon3d - carbon3d.com Carbon3D raised another $81M and will be expanding. It's arguably one of the most impressive companies/technologies out on the market right now. The project looks pretty basic, but I am including it anyway. | | kickstarter - kickstarter.com Not exactly 3D Printing related, but in the spirit of the readers of this digest I am going to include it. | | falconminerals - falconminerals.com Robo3D is a 3D Printer manufacturer based in San Diego (my hometown!) and they are being acquired by an Australian company. | | Mark Wilson - markwilsondesign.co.nz I honestly have no idea what this is or how it works, but allegedly it is a synthetic, 3D Printed, (organism?) that moves. If you know what is going on with this I'd love to know.
