This piece combines CRISPR with the ever growing antibacterial resistance problem. As many know, we are running out of antibacterials to use as bacteria become more and more resistant. Enter CRISPR, which may be able to instruct, "harmful bacteria to self-destruct." Pretty neat, read more here. | | David Shaywitz - Forbes Ever wonder what exactly Chief Medical Officers at health tech companies do, and how they differ from their counter parts at traditional life sciences companies. Look no further than this Forbes piece from David Shaywitz. It's a great review of both types of CMOs based on his experience, and the experiences of many of his peers. | | Alex Kacik - Modern Healthcare The reasons for rising healthcare costs, and how to mitigate them are complicated... to say the least. This piece in Modern Healthcare explores how convoluted chargemasters (master list of what hospitals charge for different procedures) contribute to these costs, and why the prices listed on chargemasters have been growing over time. Certainly a good read for a quick primer on the subject! | | Timothy Jost - Health Affairs And you thought the AHCA was dead... negotiations have started up again over the Republican replacement for the ACA. This Health Affairs article serves to give you a quick update on what's changing, and what's new in the amended version of the bill. | | The Medical Futurist This is an interesting look at some of the research on VR from Brennan Spiegel and his team at Cedars-Sinai. I will say that the article is a bit more optimistic about VR than even Dr. Spiegel has been at times, which I find ironic. Spiegel has spoken about how we need to temper our expectations for technology in healthcare, as well as his experiences trying to put a VR headset on a terminally ill patient who basically looked at him like he was crazy. | Join the Techstars Team Today!
