| | 3D Printing | February 24, 2017 | Happy Friday You!
I am slowly recovering from the excess weight gains from Vegas. I am already down 10 lbs and should be down 20 lbs more by end of March.
Speaking of nutrition, I just finished watching Michael Pollan's excellent documentary In Defense of Food (check it out if you get a chance).
Also, I just started reading The Problem of Political Authority -- and it's screwing with my head (in a good way) --- it's very much like the "Red Pill" of politics.
So far, I am unable to find any logical fallacies or loopholes on any of the arguments presented by the author.
Also started reading Tools of Titans (which is also great, but very scattered).
But... Who cares about any of that anyway?
This is a 3D Printing digest!
Speaking of which, we will be covering:
1.) The downfall of another Kickstarter (Tiko) 2.) Disney's quiet acquisition 3.) OpenBionics winning a $1M prize 4.) A man getting sentenced for CNC Mill'ed guns 5.) The Pros/Cons of owning a 3D Printer 6.) 3D Printing a ORCA Fetus 7.) Voodoo Manufacturing's new upcoming API 8.) ...and a couple of company/product updates
That's about it.
I hope you enjoy today, and the upcoming weekend.
As always, hit reply if you'd like to chat about anything.
Until next time, my friend, Dilanka

Contemplation:
"...Wisdom is the instantaneous recognition that a crisis is a blessing, and even greater wisdom recognizes that blessings can also trigger a crisis. When we truly understand that, we're less likely to be upset about difficulties or elated about opportunities; we remain centered no matter what happens around us. That is one of the secrets of self-mastery..." ---- John Demartini, The Breakthrough Experience (pg 12) | Join General Assembly & Techstars for the global movement toward gender parity on International Women's Day 2017! During these engaging, interactive lightning talks, get inspired by female leaders who are spearheading local innovation in tech, culture, social media, and politics. They’ll discuss how they’ve pioneered gender equality in their industries, the challenges they faced, and provide key tips and strategies on taking action. After the talk, connect with people of all backgrounds in your community, and pledge to #BeBoldForChange in 2017. Find an event in your city: http://ga.co/2lZWQeT | | General Fabb - fabbaloo.com Tiko raised about $3M on their Kickstarter a few years ago and they just put up a white flag by (essentially) announcing their failure to deliver product. In the middle of all this, the CEO of M3D was clever enough to take advantage of the situation by offering Tiko backers with discounted M3D Printers. Interesting stuff.
P.S: One of the reasons to Fabbaloo is that it's one of the *FEW* 3D printing related blogs with spam free, interesting content. The majority of them are a bunch of spam and advertisement laden cesspool(s) with nothing useful. | | Steve O'Hear - techcrunch.com This is an interesting move. Mattel is supposed to release the (delayed) Thingmaker 3D Printer this year -- perhaps Disney is also getting into the game? | | Open Bionics - twitter.com Congratulations! More about this particular price can be found here: https://www.roboticsforgood.ae/ | | David Grossman - popularmechanics.com This is not 3D Printed --- rather, the guy used a CNC Mill.
It's just a matter of time till stories like this will become more and more prevalent.
Remember: Technology is merely a tool. How you use it has everything to do with YOU and very little to do with the technology itself. | | Brian Benchoff - hackaday.com One of the most underrated questions. Keep in mind: the best part of this article is in the COMMENTS section right below it. Read that. | | Avery Lill - kdlg.org Five years ago, three orcas died in the Nushagak River.
One was pregnant, and Bristol Bay area scientists, students, and educators have been working to make a plastic model of the fetal orca's skeleton with the help of 3D Printing.
The fully assembled killer whale fetus is estimated to be about about 6-feet long. | | Voodoo - voodoomfg.com Last week I mentioned Voodoo Manufacturing and how you could upload a 3D Printable file and have an entire farm of 3D Printers manufacture that part for you. In addition to the recent $1.4M seed funding, looks like they are releasing an API. Worth checking out. As a side note, I'd love to have a Voodoo app on the AstroPrint app store as well. | | Lani Labs - lanilabs.com This might be of use to you if you operate a bunch of 3D Printers in an educational institute or library. Essentially, it allows you to charge for prints and manage printers with a bunch of users. | | Robo3D - robo3d.com This was a printer that was shown at CES 2017. It's finally available for Pre-Order -- if you are interested in that. | | | You are receiving this email because you believe that the best startup articles and videos are made by active members of the startup community.
