Maker | June 10, 2016 | As promised here's the monthly Maker and Innovation Education-focused reading list. I had 12 good articles but I whittled it down to 4 of the best (in order) as well as 2 nice videos for you to watch as you sip your coffee on Saturday or Sunday morning. Enjoy the reads and as always, let me know if you have theme ideas.
Also, send this issue to a friend and see if they'd like to sign up (using this link http://eepurl.com/YWsZb) for this digest too!
Mark | Maker Startup Digest is curated by: | | Mark Schreiber - Director of Innovation and Design, Maker Education Consultant, Makerspace and Fablab Evangelist Contact Mark Schreiber at mark.schreiber@startupdigestmail.com | Applications Open for Techstars IoT Accelerator in NYC The Techstars IoT Accelerator is for startups who are focused on the infrastructure of the future with specific emphasis on software and artificial intelligence, connected enterprise, smart cities and energy, advanced manufacturing, health and wearables, logistics and automotive, VR, AR, drones and robotics, agriculture, and the connected home. Applications close July 10 and the program takes place in NYC. Learn more. | | James Fallows - The Atlantic Wow. If you only have time to read one article on this list, read this one. James makes a great point on how the Maker Movement will impact the US, it's schools, it's economy and it's future. A must read. | | Robert Brown - WorkDesign Magazine I can't agree more! Makerspaces are great for businesses and schools. Pass this on to the skeptics. | | Mary Jo Madda - EdSurge EdSurge did a week long article barrage about the Maker Movement in Schools. This article interviewing MIT's Mitch Resnick, was one of my favorites because, as the title shows, making isn't just drones and electronics: it's a process, it's a passion, and as Mitch says often, it starts with Play. | | Karissa Bell - Mashable What happens when Google and MIT combine forces to change the way kids program/code? Well, read the article and you'll get the idea that coding will continue to gain ground in elementary education. | | Astro Teller - TED You alway need a good video for your Sunday morning coffee time right? Well, sit down with a cup-o-joe and watch this TED talk on the importance, even benefits, of failure. | | Andrew Stern - Tech Insider This is a great little 8-minute video on what may be happing in a school near you (If it isn't have them give me a call and I'll help them)! The Maker Movement is being adopted quickly and I can't wait to see what these kids continue to build! | | | You are receiving this email because you believe that the best startup articles and videos are made by active members of the startup community.
