3D Printing

June 10, 2016

Hey you.

Hope you have been productive this past week. (P.S: Paying attention to the U.S election does not count)  ;)

Anyway, I have been doing a lot of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, reading and listening to podcasts lately.

Still 3D Printing random toys here at the AstroPrint office.

In any case, hope you enjoy this week's digest!
Thanks again for reading!

Robbers steal over $60k worth of 3D Printers in Southern California

AirWolf3D - airwolf3d.com

AirWolf is a 3D Printer manufacturer based in Costa Mesa, California. This is surveillance footage of some guy backing his van into their warehouse and allegedly stealing $60k worth of 3D Printers. This is obviously bad, but I am also curious if this heist was worth the effort as 3D Printers may not (yet) be valuable in the criminal black market. Or perhaps it is?

3D Printing in Film

Alec - 3ders.org

This is a cool case study of the use of 3D Printing on the popular comedy series Gran'Pa Knows Best. It's interesting because an amateur filmmaker with a DSLR and a 3D Printer to produce props could make films at 1/10th of the cost these days. Quite the time to be alive.

The Definitive Guide to 3D Printing

3DHubs - 3dhubs.com

If you are still not too familiar with 3D Printing -- 3D Hubs has released an excellent guide to 3D Printing. If you are a beginner, this is a must read. It's one of the best guides I have read thus far and one that is worth bookmarking or forwarding to a friend who is interested in 3D Printing.

Boy scouts 3D Print hands for kids in Haiti

CBS - YouTube

A bunch of boy scouts used 3D Printing to 3D Print functional prosthetic hands for their friend and some kids in Haiti. If you are unfamiliar, the e-NABLE open source hand allows anyone with a 3D printer to participate in the charitable act of 3D Printing a hand for those in need. Very cool.

HP will release a 3D Printer this year

HP - HP

Not exactly brand spanking new, but just in case you weren't familiar, HP is going to release their own 3D Printer later this year. Should be interesting.

UPS Launching a on-demand 3D Printing service

UPS - fool.com

UPS launched a in-store 3D Printing service a while back and now they are launching an on demand Industrial quality 3D printing service. The idea is anyone could place and order online and receive a physical object either on the same day or in a few days. Interesting.
