| | 3D Printing | December 09, 2016 | Howdy!
I just found out about a guy named Jordan Peterson from the Joe Rogan podcast.
He's INCREDIBLE.
He's a professor at the University of Toronto and is a super fascinating dude.
His YouTube channel is full of incredible lectures too.
So, Prof. Peterson sent me on a wild goose chase this week and I have been ordering books from his reading list and watching his lectures like a maniac.
If it wasn't for YouTube and the Internet, I would have NEVER found out about this guy.
Anyway... back to 3D Printing...
In this week's digest, we will be covering:
1.) Virtual reality and 3D Modeling 2.) Knoxville, Tennessee 3.) Ray Kurzweil's predictions 4.) Bird flying through lasers with 3D Printed Goggles (seriously) 5.) Using Blockchain technology 6.) Next generation technologies 7.) 3D Printable models for educators 8.) Converting 2D Images to 3D Models using Neural Networks 9.) CubeForme shutting down its subscription service 10.) The Arm Bot Kickstarter 11.) AirWolf's WolfBite for fixing adhesion issues
Phew.
That's a solid chunk of good stuff that should keep you busy this week.
Hope you are well!
As always, feel free to hit me up anytime.
Until next time, my friend, Dilanka. | | Tested - youtube.com I always thought VR was for porn and silly games, but THIS is cool. Especially if you don't have much design or CAD skills. I really look forward to trying this out. | | Patrick Sisson - curbed.com Good Read. | | Marc Bain - qz.com Ray Kurzweil just mentioned that it would be the norm to have a 3D Printer in the home by 2020. Although, his main use case was for textiles and 3D Printing clothing. The original article was on NYTIMES, but it likely has a paywall. | | Stanford - youtube.com 🐦 Never thought I'd see a bird flying through lasers with 3D Printed goggles. | | Virtual Currency Today - virtualcurrencytoday.com Cubichain (which develops anti-counterfeiting tools for the web) has announced that they've deployed a blockchain network to protect 3D Printable digital files for aerospace parts. Although, they claim that it's a "Private Blockchain" -- From my understanding of the Blockchain technology, doesn't it defeat the purpose if it's private? | | Michael Molitch-Hou - engineering.com Good overview of some exciting 3D Printing technologies. | | Ryan Erickson - stratasys.com If you are an educator, you should find these 3D Printable repositories helpful. It would be a bonus if you can get your students to print these out with you! | | Various - arxiv.org This might have interesting implications in 3D Printing later on. The idea is this: Feed a computer a bunch of 2D Images of a person and it will produce a realistic looking 3D rendering of that person's face. So, if you are ever in the mood to rob a liquor store as Donald Trump, you could 3D Print his face and wear it as a mask during the robbery. Just kidding 😇
P.S: This paper is a bit geeky / math heavy, FYI. | | Kyle Pham - cubeforme.com Cubeforme had a 3D Printed subscription gift box service for a while. Looks like they'll officially close down that service by the end of this year. Their marketplace should still be online though. There's also a decent Interview with the co-founder. | | Kickstarter - kickstarter.com Interesting project based out of Hong Kong. | | Airwolf3D - airwolf3d.com Airwolf recently released their Wolf Bite Ultra product that helps you solve adhesion and warping problems when you are 3D Printing. I have tried it and it's pretty good. If you are on a budget, stick to hairspray and painters tape. | | | You are receiving this email because you believe that the best startup articles and videos are made by active members of the startup community.
