Startup Reading List

October 09, 2015

Ben Horowitz, startup founder, CEO, writer, investor, etc., could be Startup Jackson. Sure this theory has been debunked before but they also said Tupac was no longer with us and yet he was spotted at Coachella a couple of years ago.

Today we feature Ben's write-up on why he loves Medium. His firm just invested in them and Ben explains why Medium is a very effective way for new bloggers/startups to reach their audience.

Enjoy the this week's reads and see you next week, same bat time, same bat channel

Medium

Ben Horowitz

"Medium gives those newbies a change to reach an audience since it it is a blogging tool + fairly meritocratic distribution."

I and We

Aaron Harris

"The interplay between ego and modesty is obvious when you hear founders talk about their companies. As a company grows, the best founders increasingly talk about "We" and not just "I." Every discussion about the achievements of the company is a chance to highlight the contributions of other people and of the organization overall."

Pitching to US VCs

Daniel Glazer and Robert Mollen

"Your pitch deck is your key written selling tool. It needs to make your argument for investment clearly enough to stand alone, and yet also provide a platform for you to have a broader discussion of your business."

Class 5 Notes Essay - Blitzscaling course

Chris McCann

"What were the themes in common between Sam Altman, Michael Dearing, and Ann Miura-Ko?
As a small startup you need to move fast, Make decisions quickly, Have extreme user focus — build something people care about, Don't start a company unless it's bursting out of you, Don't do it alone — much easier with co-founders, Authenticity of the founding story — why your founding story connects to what you are building, Strong focus on product market fit, You can ignore a lot of things in the early stage"
