| | 3D Printing | October 07, 2016 | Hey. Hope things are winding down well for you this week.
Book I am currently reading: Men on Strike by Helen Smith -- Very fascinating, especially if you are male.
Something I have been struggling with lately has been information overload. The internet certainly does not help. If you are having similar issues, perhaps Mr. Rogers could be of assistance.
He says:
"..I don't think we give that gift anymore (the gift of silence). I'm very concerned that our society is much more interested in information than wonder. In noise, rather than silence...how do we encourage reflection? Oh my, this is a noisy world..." -- Fred Rogers
Also, the latest Werner Herzog documentary Lo and Behold about technology is quite good.
In any case...
Back to 3D Printing..
In this week's digest, we will be covering:
1.) Nissan's Sculpture 2.) Polar3D Expanding 3.) Low cost Bionic Prosthetics 4.) Bioprinting in Romania 5.) Q3 3D Printing Trends 6.) Running a maker business with MakerOS 7.) Fat Dragon Games Kickstarter 8.) Using 3D Printing for Architecture 9.) Brain Sensing Device Kickstarter 10.) MarkForged releasing a new printer 11.) Makerbots Terms of Use 12.) 3D Printing stuff for your office
That should keep you busy for a bit!
As always, if you find any inconsistencies/inaccuracies in any of the items I have included in this digest, please hit reply and let me know. My bullshit sensor is pretty good, but sometimes even I miss stuff.
Thanks for reading!
Until next time, my friend. Dilanka | Remember operator billing? Operator billing was once thought to be the perfect mobile commerce platform. But for various reasons, it failed to pick up traction. Learn why, and find out about the new future of m-commerce, here. | | Nissan - YouTube.com Nissan made a full-sized vehicle sculpture using a 3D Printing Pen. I am not entirely sure what model pen they used, but it's still interesting. | | polar3d - polar3D.com Polar3D just announced that their users completed 100k+ prints and closed a $2M injection to expand. | | openbionics - openbionics.com This is quite cool. It's a lot similar to the E-NABLE project and the Prusa Hand -- in that one of their main goals is to make prosthetic hands etc. accessible to amputees worldwide. 3D Printing should certainly facilitate that goal. | | symme3d - symme3d I don't know much about bioprinting, but allegedly, a Romanian company called Symme3D is releasing Romania's first Bio Printer in the near future. If you know a lot about bioprinting, I'd love to hear your thoughts about this. | | 3dhubs - 3dhubs.com If you are not familiar, 3D Hubs produces a quarterly trends report based on their enormous network of 3D Printers around the world. It's a great sneak peak into how folks are using 3D Printing. Stuff that's interesting: Sensors & Electronics and the Education sectors. | | makeros - makeros.com If you've ever thought about running a maker business revolving around 3D Printing, perhaps you'd find MakerOS interesting. I've met these guys in Indiana before and they are a cool bunch. Tell them Dilanka sent you and they'll take care of you. | | Fat Dragon Games - kickstarter.com This is a recent super successful Kickstarter campaign in the 3D Printing and Gaming spaces. In short, it allows folks create modular interlocking buildings. Good validation of the demand of cool products / apps for 3D Printer owners. | | Fabian - i.materialise.com This blog post is a bit light on content, but I am including it anyway just in case we have a small percentage of architects/hobbyists in the digest. Even among the fluff, there's still a few useful nuggets -- especially if you haven't considered the applications of 3D printing in the context of architecture. | | OpenBCI - kickstarter.com I forgot to include this last week. It's described as a biodata acquisition device that includes a 3D Printed, brain sensing headset. The headset piece(s) can be 3D Printed at home and assembled with the rest of the kit. Interesting. | | MarkForged - MarkForged MarkForged released a new, industrial grade printer called the Mark X. Check out this blog post for details about what's new with the Mark X. | | solidsmack - solidsmack.com Interesting analysis of the Makerbot Terms of Use. | | 3dprinting.com - 3dprinting.com If you have never 3D Printed anything before, check this out.
