Health Reading List | May 29, 2015 | Hello hello,
It was a short week this week, so not much to say here, but we've got some great reviews from ASCO and a piece from Medium by Google Venture's President & Managing Director that I highly recommend.
Keep fighting the good fight,
Scott
Startup Highlight: Atomwise
"Atomwise, a health tech startup in the current Y Combinator batch, has launched more than a dozen projects in the last year to find cures for both common and orphan diseases – diseases that would otherwise be too expensive and time-intensive to tackle. It's working with IBM to find a cure to Ebola and with Dalhousie University in Canada to search for a measles treatment. Levy says the startup went through 8.2 million compounds to find potential cures for multiple sclerosis in a matter of days."
Thanks again to Rabia Khan for the suggestion with Atomwise!

The biotechnology firm, which provides genomic sequencing tests for tumors, will present PatientMatch at the American Society of Clinical Oncology conference this weekend in Chicago. The company says the network is the first of its kind." | | Arlene Weintraub - Forbes With ASCO taking place this week, I wanted to include this overview of the exciting new immunotherapies beyond presented by the likes of Amgen, Genelux, and Viralytics. This has been an exciting year for oncology, and ASCO is gearing up to be a great high point. | | Quoctrung Bui - Planet Money - NPR Everyone has been excited about robotic surgery for years, but the possibilities for robots to cut down the costs of simply running a hospital are also fairly immense. It is surreal to look at the sort of automation these robots are capable of, and one can only imagine what the future will hold for automation in hospitals. | | Abigail Zuger, MD - NYTimes Dr. Robert Wachter's book is a must read for today's digital health/health tech entrepreneur, and Dr. Zuger does a great job of reviewing his work. I highly recommend picking up a copy! | | Bill Maris - Medium Whenever someone like Bill Maris puts out an article on health care and the trends impacting medicine and life sciences today, I take heed. Another must read from this weeks round up. | | Gaia Vince - Mosaic Science "One nerve connects your vital organs, sensing and shaping your health. If we learn to control it, the future of medicine will be electric. By Gaia Vince." | | Charu Raghu - Rock Health Curious what digital health investors are thinking about and how they're approaching the industry? Look no further than this report put out from Rock Health last week after their Investor Summit. | | Greg Vlahos - PwC "US venture capital funding for the life sciences sector, which includes biotechnology and medical devices, increased 34% in value and 4% in volume during the first quarter of 2015, according to the MoneyTree™ Report from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) LLP and the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA). The report is based on data provided by Thomson Reuters. Venture capitalists invested $2.2 billion in 193 life sciences deals in first quarter 2015, compared with $1.6 billion in 186 deals during the same quarter of 2014." | | | You are receiving this email because you believe that the best startup articles and videos are made by active members of the startup community. © 2009-2015 Startup Digest.
